ENDOMETRIAL BIOPSY & ENDOSEE (OFFICE HYSTEROSCOPY) INFORMATION

What is an Endometrial biopsy and an Endosee procedure?

We use a tiny telescope to look inside the uterus and take a sample of the uterine lining to help us with the treatment plan, most importantly to rule out cancer or pre-cancer.

How is it performed? Is there any cut on my body?

There is no cut on your body. The biopsy is performed through the vagina. The provider will insert a metal speculum just like he or she is doing a pap smear. Then he or she will insert a very small soft siphon like tube into the cervix and quickly biopsy the lining and take the tube out.

Is the procedure painful and do I get any anesthesia?

There is a moderate amount of pain for few seconds when the provider will pass the tube into the uterus. We recommend Motrin or Advil 600mg or Midol 2 tablets 1 hour before the procedure, which helps reduce the pain significantly.

If you want anesthesia and want to go to sleep for the procedure, please inform the provider before scheduling the procedure.

How should I prepare before the procedure?

• Eat something.
• Take Motrin/ Advil or Midol– 2 tablets 1 hour before the procedure afterfood.
• Take Misoprostol – 3 tablets approx. 6 hours before your appointment on the day of procedure (if prescribed toyou).

What to expect after the procedure?

You may get mild menstrual cramping for a day or few hours after the procedure which can be alleviated by taking Motrin (Ibuprofen) or Tylenol – 650mg.

When do I follow up?
You need to follow up as advised by your provider. You may need an appointment 2 weeks after the biopsy to discuss the treatment plan.
